Lucky Pup Camp Anchorage Beach

*YOUR CHILD MUST BE ABLE TO SWIM WELL AND SWIM WITHOUT FLOTATION DEVICES*

ABOUT OUR CAMP

This is a 90 minute surf and ocean awareness clinic for children ages 5-7 that will run Monday thru Friday. This class aims to build the confidence of young children in and around the ocean. Children can choose from a variety of surf craft from surfboards, to boogie boards, to hand planes and more!

WHAT A DAY AT CAMP LOOKS LIKE:

  • Upon arrival, surfers will be asked to apply sunscreen and put on their wetsuit or rash guard if needed. The group will then gather for the opening activity- usually a fun game that gets everyone stoked for the day!

  • Instructors will then go over water safety and analyze the waves, currents, tides, etc. in which we are experiencing that day. Surfers then pick their board for on-land practice which usually lasts about 10-15 minutes.

  • Following on-land practice we head to the water for just over an hour of board riding.

  • About 10 minutes before camp ends, we head back to the beach to return the boards, wetsuits, and clean the area. We end the day in a huddle, feeling totally stoked to get back to camp!

WHAT TO BRING:

To be fully prepared for the day, please bring with you a towel, sun screen, a change of clothes (if desired), a water bottle, and a snack.

BRINGING YOUR OWN GEAR:

If you do not have your own gear, we will provide it for you. This includes wetsuits, leashes, surfboards, boogie boards, hand planes, and skimboards. If you prefer to bring your own board, it must be discussed and approved by the surf instructors.

OUR INSTRUCTORS AND RATIO:

All instructors are expert or high-level intermediate surfers that have a passion for teaching and coaching. All instructors are certified in CPR and First Aid or are trained lifeguards. All instructors undergo extensive training through Lucky Dog Surf School and are well versed in all surfing conditions. Our Student to Instructor Ratios is 1:1!

INCLEMENT WEATHER/CONDITIONS:

If we find that the surf is too big, and conditions are deemed unsafe to surf, surf school will be cancelled for that particular day. Surf sessions will remain open in the event of rain; however, if it is thundering or lightning, we will be closed and students may make up that particular day during the makeup days (see below). We will be sure to contact you by phone in the event of a cancellation.

MAKEUPS FOR CANCELLED CAMP DAYS:

We have a policy that allows one cancellation day per week due to inclement weather and/or dangerous surf conditions. In the event of a week that experiences multiple cancellations we will offer makeup sessions on the following days: 7/13, 7/14, 8/10 & 8/11 @ 7-10am. Because we offer 4 days of makeups in the event Lucky Dog cancels, we do not offer refunds or credits for campers unable to attend the make up day(s).

FLAT SURF:

If the surf is flat, surf school will remain open. No refunds or rescheduling will be permitted. Unfortunately, we do not have the luxury of perfect surf everyday. When the waves are flat we will work on skills that will strengthen our students' surfing abilities, such as paddling, balancing, as well as a multitude of other flat water skills needed for surfing.
